Yesteryear Collection

Sloppy Joe's was an American Bar and Grill in Hertford from 1985 to 2002 which many folk from the area have very fond memories of. Taking the essence of what made Sloppy Joe's so special but bringing it up to date, in 2014 this firm favourite Hertford hangout was returned back to life!
The official beginning of Sloppy Joe’s Bar, the famous and infamous American Key West saloon, was December 5, 1933–the day Prohibition was repealed. The bar's most famous patrons were Ernest Hemingway and the infamous rum runner Habana Joe.
The bar went through two name changes before settling on Sloppy Joe's with the encouragement of Hemingway. The name was taken from the original Sloppy Joe's bar in Old Havana that sold both liquor and iced seafood. Because the floor was always wet with melted ice, his patrons taunted this Spanish Joe, the owner José (Joe) García Río that he ran a 'sloppy' place....and the name stuck.
On November 1, 2006, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
